Katie Nash - the beloved heroine of Elizabeth Berg's previous novels Durable Goods and Joy School - is 13 years old in 1961, and she's facing a summer full of conflict. Her father has enlisted her in two care-taking jobs - baby-sitting for the rambunctious Wexler boys and, equally challenging, looking after Mrs. Randolph, her elderly, bedridden neighbor. To make matters worse, Katie has been forcibly inducted into the "loser" Girl Scout troop, compliments of her only new friend Cynthia's controlling mother. Her only saving grace is a trip to her childhood hometown in Texas, to visit her best friend Cherylanne. But people and places change - and Cherylanne is no exception. When an act of betrayal leaves Katie wondering just what friends are really for, she learns to rely on the only one left she can trust Herself. Full of the joys, anguish, and innocence of American adolescence, True to Form is a story sure to make listeners remember and reflect on their own moments of discovery and self-definition.

True to Form Katie Nash Book 3 (Audible Audio Edition) Elizabeth Berg Natalie Ross Brilliance Audio Books

Written with wisdom and wit, this book by Elizabeth Berg—the third in a series—is a coming of age story to which any woman who came of age in the '60s will thoroughly enjoy, if not actually treasure.

It's the summer of 1961 and Katie Nash is 13, bridging that confusing time between childhood and adolescence. But Katie does something so terrible and upsetting that she can barely forgive herself, and the act may very well bring her remorse her entire life. How she tries to make amends is both endearing and sad and teaches us all lessons in not only how to forgive one another, but also humble ourselves to seek forgiveness from those we have harmed.

While this book can be read as a stand-alone novel, I think you will appreciate it so much more if you read "Durable Goods" and "Joy School" first.

True to Form Katie Nash Book 3 (Audible Audio Edition) Elizabeth Berg Natalie Ross Brilliance Audio Books Reviews

I like lines like, "I got tears in my eyes, but they were not the crying kind, they were just the kind that show you your body agrees so much with what your mind just said."

and, "... my fingers pressed over my mouth as though to keep things from bursting out. I am lucky on the inside."

I love her character development, her writing style.

The ONLY PROBLEM was with the KINDLE publishing in the transcription from book to there were so many spacing problems with the font that multiple words were run on. More typo/spacing problems than any book I have ever read.
I love Elizabeth Berg and have read just about every book of hers. "True to Form" doesn't disappoint. Told from the perspective of a 13 year old girl, in an era I can relate to ( I am in my mid sixties) I found humor, sensitivity and, as always, emotional lessons being learned. Never boring, fast moving and short this book is a joy to read and carries you along without getting bogged down.
I have read almost all of Elizabeth Berg's novels including the two previous books in this series. I think Katie is one of my all time favorite characters, rigth up there with Addie Pray and Scout . Katie's wonderful, poetic take on life just makes me feel 'tender' toward her. SinceMs. Berg's dedication credits a reader for yher bringing Katie back....please, let me try and influence you yet again!
I need to know how she deals with the Barlett school and what becomes of Cherylanne and her sister?

As far as I am concern, if she did another Katie book every other year till Katie is a grown woman... I'd do my own happy and dance and buy them all!
love elizabeth burg, this is the third in a trilogy about a young girl who's mom died young and she moves around slit with her military hard nosed dad
A refreshing story about the ongoing thoughts and experiences of an adolescent girl. She observes and explores everything...people...animals....adult interactions...goals....friendships. has a unique moral compass which she continually 're-examines. She is mature in her immaturity. She learns about life by helping an elderly couple. She baby sits and observes the interactions of the family. She has a relationship with a priest who helps her find her way through a serious error in interpersonal error. Her character is refreshing and delightful.
I love Elizabeth Berg, and I particularly love Kate, the herioine of this novel. And yes, she is a hero, because she is navigating childhood without her mother, and with a stepmother, and a very strict father. She is figuring out what it means to be a friend, and seeing with her own eyes the devotion of a couple who have grown old together. I love this book. (There are two more you need to read before this one! Durable Goods, and Joy School.)
True to Form was fantastic...one of my all time favorites. This book was written so wonderfully that I could have pulled a favorite quote from almost every page. This isn't the type of story that you read just to see what happens. It was like experiencing the world through the eyes of Katie Nash. The reader just lived in the moment right along with her. Throughout the book, Katie is noticing the actions and emotions of the adults in her life as she, herself, is growing into a young woman. Her observations are astute, witty, and sometimes absolutely hilarious. I loved this book so much that when I was finished I just wanted to start all over again. In fact, ironically, only a Katie Nash quote can sum up just how much I enjoyed it. I'm so sad this series is complete! I look forward to reading more Elizabeth Berg books.
