Caught in a war between dragons and mages, Yuri doesn’t have a lot of time to learn how be his village’s Dragon Talker. It won’t be easy, either, as the only people in his village who knew what it takes have died in a sudden fire of decidedly suspicious origin. To make matters worse, his village was claimed by the largest dragon in the land. Samora, a fierce ice dragon with a twisted sense of humor, is just as likely to eat Yuri as accept him. Yuri will learn first-hand the ancient warning and curse, “Beware the dragon’s tail.”

This was a pleasant read once I got used to all of the typos and the kindle conversion problems. It was a bit too simplistic a story to be considered riveting. About a third of the way in I realized this was headed toward a series in which case I would have expected more in depth character development, to include the dragons and more emphasis on some goal that had to be reached. At this point the story lacked real definition primarily because the characters were too flat or to mysterious. For example, one of the mages appears to be developing a distaste for mage history but other than the story told by one character to his son there is no real understanding of how there came to be mages, dragons, humans and earth magic. And just as I was wondering how mages came into existance, and if any were females, there appears a female who may be a mage who has parents......I see a lot of potential elements in the story . I will read the next one if I remember to look for it but won't be waiting with bated breath for the next in the series.

Dragon Talker eBook Steve Anderson Reviews

In this story, dragons are rulers of a segment of the human population. It is dragons vs mages, and the mages are not nice people. The dragons have their own aganda but are not cruel, maybe a little thoughtless, but on the whole, they look after their human dependents. The mages on the other hand are power hungry and cruel. A little different twist on the dragon story.

Looking forward the the squel.
I have never read any of Steve Anderson's books but I guarantee I will READ everything he writes. This was a real page turner. The depth of his characters was superb.

This was what I would call an Airport Book--One you can pick up and put down in response to interruptions and still maintain an interest. It's a time passer, mildly amusing but not really something to engage your brain. Sometimes that's just what you want.
An addictive and enjoyable first novel from Steve Anderson. I enjoy fantasy novels and had trouble putting this one down. The characters are well-developed and came alive for me. As the story progressed, I found myself feeling the emotions they were experiencing and came to either care about or genuinely dislike characters. The multiple story lines are perfectly weaved together and the various twists and turns kept me guessing and left me curious as to what will happen to Yuri and Samora and all the other characters in subsequent novels.
Am still plowing through this one --giving 2!/2, finding it , I dont know if I am being too critical as I am NOT a critic just a reader--one who likes Dragon Books. Something lacking. Perhaps Steve Anderson has not written too many books yet. The ideas are certainly there. I wiull give another of his books a go later on.
This is a fun look at humans, Mages, and Dragons. Yurt is forced into the position of Dragon talker. Yurt goes in search of instructions on how to be a talker and as he travels we learn the legends of the his world. We also learn more of Yuri's purpose. I am looking forward to book#2.
This book reads like a light fantasy, though it is not very humorous. There is some fighting and death, but it is not the main element. It reads a bit like an enjoyable parable. Appropriate for most ages, though the under 11 crowd might find it a bit too bloody. No cursing or sex that I noticed. So why not a five, it needed some other element to pull it up to five, a romance, or more world exploring, or more humor, etc. I recommend it, and hope the author will be taking the characters out into pages again.
