Is there something hidden inside your deepest memories?

What if you could relive any event from your past in picture-perfect detail? The possibilities would be endless. Would you want to revisit your fondest memories? That time you scored the winning touchdown? That perfect family vacation when you were a child? That time you had your first kiss? Or would you use this ability to dig deeper into your past, to try to understand how exactly you became the person you are today? Would you be afraid of what you might find?

Kyle Drake is a young professional working in management at a high-tech laboratory in the San Francisco Bay Area. Losing sight of the motivation that helped him achieve his status, he has found himself reverting back to the lifestyle of his wilder younger days, driven in no small part by his long-time friend, Travis. When a remarkable discovery at the lab one day forces Kyle to snap out his destructive pattern of behavior, Kyle does everything he can to try to clean up his act and lead his project to a successful outcome. Though when Kyle and his friends realize the true impact of what his team has discovered, they struggle to put the interests of the project before their own selfish needs. Soon, Kyle finds himself tangled in a web of deception and sabotage that threaten to ruin his one chance at setting his life on the right path.

This book definitely needs a strong editor to keep the author on track. The story rambles hither and thither, just when it needs some solid direction. There are numerous spelling errors - or instances where the author has simply used the wrong word, and a good edit would have resolved these problems. I found the main character unbelievable - at the research institution where I worked, a project manager acting (or failing to act) as Kyle did would have been let go very quickly. Unlike some reviewers, I thought the dialogue was stilted, and surrounded by unnecessary padding again, a good edit needed).

That said, the author and story have potential - although I kept getting frustrated, I also wanted to keep reading. I've only given it two stars but could be persuaded that 2.5 would be fairer. With a solid edit, it could score three to 3.5 stars.

Recall Face the Past or Forget the Future Keith C Meyer 9780692563090 Books Reviews

Any novel that keeps me reading past 200 am deserves a great review. I am a fan of "what if" novels when written as if the plot could happen. The author makes the ability to vividly recall past experiences seem plausible. I was able to follow his descriptions of the science of how memory works and was generally able understand his use of computer technology (I am 55+). The characters were developed quite nicely and the author makes great use of his Bay area setting.

Recall stood out for me because I continued to think about it long after finishing reading. What memories would I relive? Would I feel the actual pain if I chose to relive childbirth? What effect would this have on eyewitness testimony? Psychotherapy? It is pretty clear that I am hoping for a sequel.
I was delighted to read Keith C. Meyer's debut novel Recall. It takes the reader on a fascinating journey into the Silicon Valley tech world where Kyle Drake and his team are on the verge of a major neurological discovery that allows a subject the ability to access past memories & experiences in real-time vivid detail. As someone who often finds myself wishing I could remember past experiences more clearly, this was a very thoughtful and mind-provoking plot for me. The author does a great job of advancing the story along and I enjoyed the "realness" of his characters and their dialogue. I think the author has a strong grasp of the tech industry & the scifi genre and I look forward to reading more works from him in the future.
What might I do if the technology described in this book were available? I probably won't be around long enough to find out what I would do! Glad I got to read this book to make me think about it, though. I was gifted this book at no charge by for my . I have enjoyed reading it very much, and want to thank the author for generously providing the work free of cost.
This story was not really what I thought it would be! The author was very good about setting the scene and working up the characters to be believable! I was expecting more out of the "memory recall" scenario!

I still feel that the author did justice to the plot! Just don't go into it with the expectancy of the story being a true time travel story!
Beautiful idea, great storyline and believable characters and sadly it just doesn't mesh. The story plods along with poor descriptions and explanation after explanation of what the characters are feeling, what their backstory is. As a reader I just want to shake the author. Let the characters tell their story. Let the story happen. Stop making it so forced and unnatural. Please!
Which memory would you choose to revisit? This intriguing book was referred to me by a friend and I am so glad that I took her up on her offer. What an outstanding concept for a story, I was hooked from chapter one and Mr. Meyer did not release me until the bitter end. Kyle’s explanations of this science were incredible and very understandable, even to me, and I am tech challenged to say the least. Can’t say enough good about this author and this gem of a book. Kudo’s to you!!! Well Done.
Recall was a great read. The topic is intriguing and original, and though it centered around the technology world (which I know nothing about), it was easy to follow. The ability to vividly recall memories is a pretty fascinating concept, and the author skillfully navigated the appeal of this kind of neuro-technology through the lenses of several characters from different walks of life. The main characters were relatable, too - I could easily imagine their conversations over beers and their reactions to triumphs and failures, while at the same time I found myself wondering (much like the last reviewer) what I would do if I found myself with access to the technology that was developed in the book. It was definitely a thought-provoking read. The plot twists were unexpected which kept the pages turning throughout the one weekend in which I finished the entire book. I thoroughly enjoyed Keith C. Meyer's debut novel, and I'm eagerly anticipating a sequel to Recall or other works from him in the future.
